Lewisville ISD STEM Academy at Polser Elementary celebrated its opening as a STEM Academy with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony held on Friday, Oct. 18, 2019.

“We are honored to be a STEM academy in this great school district,” Polser Principal Lisa Phelps said. “The first nine weeks of school have been exciting, and we have had so much fun seeing our students explore different ways of learning in our new STEM environment.”

To prepare for the monumental year, Polser recently went through a 20-year building refresh, including upgrades to support STEM learning, thanks to LISD’s voter-approved 2017 Bond referendum

The event featured a performance of the National Anthem by Polser Singers, and remarks from LISD Superintendent, Dr. Kevin Rogers; LISD Board President, Katherine Sells; Polser Principal, Lisa Phelps; and Polser Student Council President, Britney Mai.

“STEM has brought exciting opportunities in class,” Mai said. “The engineering lessons also teach us life skills and will help us in jobs later.”

Among guests in attendance were LISD Board President, Katerine Sells; LISD Board of Trustees Kristi Hassett and Jenny Proznik; LISD Leadership Team members; and Texas House Representative Michelle Beckley’s District Director Christina Wagoner.

Following the ceremony, and cutting of the gold-colored ribbon, guests were served refreshments and invited to attend Polser’s annual Monster Mash.
